OMG, You’re so fat has become a greeting without us having noticed it. Well, at least if you are societal fat like me.
Let’s touch base on body dysmorphia; a mental illness a lot of us battle with but aren’t entirely aware we suffer from. Body dysmorphia has been the result many mental breakdowns & internal wars. A not so fat person intensely complaining about fat.
Cool, let me break it down for you, remember when you were once waist size 28? THREE years ago or so? If this is you, snap out of that insanity. Body dysmorphia is caused by minor remembrances of what we used to use to look like or what we wish to look like. Unfortunately, as we grow we gain weight, we eat differently, we get exposed to certain environments, we develop a certain lifestyle which all are a cause of body change.
Honestly, body dysmorphia can be avoided and can be treated medically. We tend to dwell a lot on our body changes and hope that other people do not notice that we’ve developed and our bodies have changed. Sadly, body change is visible and people that know our old bodies will have an opinion about the change. Sometimes the comments aren’t acceptable, sometimes they’re just from a place of concern.
Haha, I know the previous line made you ask yourself this question: ON WHOSE BODY? The sad reality is that as people we sometimes forget that as much as people are suppose to know boundaries and mutual respect, people don’t have to respect our privacy and they don’t have to keep their opinions to themselves. - sad
Now how do we educate people that feel entitled to have opinions about our bodies? Do we even have to educate them? Of course! As much as no one owes you respect but people need to learn that certain comments can be misinterpreted and may damage someone.
The first step to educating uninformed, ignorant people is to stoop to their level or go lower because most body bullies have their own body insecurities. They tell you you’re fat, tell them they sting. I do believe that like me, you’re tired of being the bigger person. You’re tired of educating people about common courtesy.
So, in summary; if you get bullied by someone about your weight. Bully them back. We have been too strong, we have withstood the bullying for so long. It’s time we go lower. Today.
